Beyond Performance: Sensate Focus as a Path to Pleasure and Connection
Sensate Focus, originally developed by Masters and Johnson, remains a cornerstone of sex therapy, but modern research on mindfulness, interoception, and neurobiology has expanded its applications. This training provides therapists with a contemporary understanding of Sensate Focus, integrating updated adaptations, trauma-informed approaches, and unique exercises designed to meet the diverse needs of today’s clients.
Participants will explore the foundations of mindful touch, graded exposure to intimacy, and body-based interventions that help clients shift away from performance anxiety and goal-driven sex. The course introduces new variations of Sensate Focus exercises tailored for trauma survivors, neurodivergent individuals, and couples facing relational or physical challenges. Therapists will leave with practical tools to help clients rebuild intimacy, enhance communication, and develop a deeper connection to their own pleasure and body awareness.
