Mattie Griffin is a Somatic Trauma Practitioner and Integrative Bodyworker specializing in touch-based, body-oriented, and nervous system–focused therapies for trauma healing. Her work is grounded in the understanding that trauma lives in the body and nervous system, and that healing happens through experiences of safety, regulation, and embodied presence.

Mattie brings over 12 years of hands-on experience as a touch-based practitioner. She was first licensed as a Medical Massage Therapist in 2012 and holds a BA in Psychology, as well as a Master’s degree in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies with an emphasis on embodied trauma. From 2017–2019, she completed over 1,000 hours of training as a Thai Yoga Therapist and Ayurvedic Wellness Practitioner through the SomaVeda® College of Natural Medicine. In 2023, she completed SomaVeda’s Advanced Doctoral Program in Sacred Natural Medicine and Integrative Traditional Therapies, which included advanced study in Ayurveda, yoga sciences and therapy, holistic nutrition, and naturopathic medicine.

Most recently, Mattie has undertaken study under the instruction of Dr. Stephen Terrell, PsyD, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, and leading expert in the field of developmental trauma. This work deeply informs her trauma-centered, regulation-based approach.

In sessions, Mattie uses therapeutic touch to support specific organs and body systems most impacted by the stress response. She also incorporates gentle movement and exercises to help integrate retained primitive reflexes and restore nervous system organization. Her work is collaborative, paced, and guided by each client’s capacity and consent.

Mattie’s deepest passion is serving women with histories of developmental and sexual trauma. She also offers touch-skills education for couples seeking to deepen intimacy, connection, and relational safety. Through touch, relationship, and presence, Mattie supports her clients in reclaiming a felt sense of safety, clarity, power, and pleasure in their bodies, relationships, and lives.
